25+ Years in the Scrub

Learning the Forest, One Trail at a Time

Jack didn't inherit a map of the Ocala National Forest — he drew his own. Around 2000 on a Suzuki DR350, he started learning the scrub, sand roads, and trails most people never ride twice.

What started as riding turned into knowing: which fire roads open after rain, where the sand stays loose until noon, which pine loops link into a full day without hitting pavement, and which springs are worth the stop when you want to swim and cool off.

He's watched the forest change — burns, storms, new closures, old favorites coming back. That kind of time in one place isn't something you get from a GPS. It's mileage, wrong turns, and coming back the next weekend to try again.

Before the dirt bikes took over, Jack raced autocross with the Sports Car Club of America — member, safety steward, and driving instructor. He hung up the car racing and put that same discipline into motorcycle instruction: line choice, control, and staying smooth when the terrain gets rough.

A tour with Jack is the whole picture — throttle time on real ground, time in nature, a dip in the springs when it fits, and the laid-back Florida community that shows up for a shared day in the woods.

The timeline

Jack's Path

2000

and still exploring

  1. 1986–89

AMI in Daytona — motorcycle and boat repairs. Graduated first in his class.

  2. ~2000

Begins learning the Ocala National Forest — sand roads, scrub, and trails most people never ride twice.

  3. 2008

Picks up a Suzuki DR350 — the bike that carried countless forest miles.

  4. 2010

Steps up to a KTM 450 — more power for the whoops, sand, and long days out.

  5. ADV & events

Rides ADV bikes — BMWs, KTMs, and more — and has been at riding events for years on all kinds of bikes and sizes.

  6. 2017

Hit by a car off the bike — a hard stop, but not the end of the story.

  7. 2019

Doctors said hang it up. Jack chose the throttle instead — back on two wheels on his own terms.

  8. 2020

Starts leading guided tours, group rides, and one-on-one training — sharing the forest he already knows by heart.

  9. 2022

Spring on Ocala soil — buys local property and shapes the first version of the home track.

  10. 2023

A student he coached lines up at the gate — first racer out of the program.

  11. 2025

The track gets a full rework — fresh turn track, hill climbs, and a woods section built for real riding.

Trail-Ready

The Shop

Oil, clutches, brakes, cables, bolt-on accessories, basic maintenance, and general setup — the everyday work that keeps you riding. Jack handles the practical stuff, not the deep engine jobs.

Bundle & save

Book two or more services in the same visit and text Jack about a bundle deal — save when you knock out the list at once.

What we don't do

Basic wrench work and setup only — no engine rebuilds, no full overhauls.

Oil Changes

Fresh oil and filter, level check, and a quick look for leaks — keep the motor happy between forest days.

Clutches

Cable adjustments, perch and lever setup, pad and plate swaps, and bleed work — plus lever modification and grinding levers to fit your hands.

Brakes & Cables

Pads, bleeds, rotor checks, and control cables routed and adjusted so stopping and clutch pull feel right.

Accessory Install

GPS mounts, lights, hand guards, and other bolt-on gear — installed clean and wired where needed.

Basic Maintenance

Air filters, spark plugs, chain lube and tension, fluids, and the routine stuff that prevents a good ride from turning into a long walk.

General Bike Setup

Suspension sag, bar/lever position, tire pressures for terrain, and a overall once-over so the bike fits the rider and the trail.
